Pool Slides - Consumer Product Safety Commission Standard for Swimming Pool Slides

All S.R.Smith Swimming Pool Slides are independently tested and verified to be fully Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) compliant.

What you need to know.
Nearly everyone in the industry is familiar with the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act (VGB) but there is also another important safety standard for Swimming Pool Slides that most folks are not aware of - 16 CFR Part 1207. Not quite as easy to remember as VGB but just as required.

16 CFR Part 1207 is the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commissions (CPSC) Safety Standard for Swimming Pool Slides. “This standard is applicable to all swimming pool slides manufactured after July 17, 1976” and covers everything from manufacturing materials to design and performance testing requirements, as well as, provides recommendations regarding installation, maintenance and intended use; with the ultimate goal being to reduce or eliminate unreasonable risks.

Who is the CPSC?
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (www.cpsc.gov) is an independent regulatory agency formed on May 14, 1973, under the provisions of the Consumer Product Safety Act (CPSA). The purposes of the Commission under the CPSA are:

(1) To protect the public against unreasonable risks of injury associated with consumer products.
(2) To assist consumers in evaluating the comparative safety of consumer products.
(3) To develop uniform safety standards for consumer products and to minimize conflicting State and local regulations.
(4) To promote research and investigation into the causes and prevention of product-related deaths, illnesses, and injuries.
(5) To administer and enforce select federal laws.

Why Should I Care About Slide CPSC Certification?
Because without it you put your business at risk. Slides that do not fully conform with the standard can place your clients at risk and ultimately your business. CPSC certification ensures compliance with a mandatory federal standard, enables the safest product experience for your customer and helps reduce your business risk.

How Do I Make Sure I am Buying a CPSC Compliant Slide?
Most of the time it is simple. Look for manufacturers who promote compliance on their website, in their marketing materials or on the product itself. Additionally, all CPSC compliant slide manufacturers are required to provide a Certificate of Conformity with each slide they manufacture. These certificates can be part of the packaging or can come as a separate dedicated document. Regardless of the form factor a CPSC compliant slide manufacturer will be able to provide supporting compliance documentation upon request. To confirm your preferred manufacturer's compliance with this federal safety standard, request a copy of their compliance documentation. If you are unable to ascertain their compliance information, then you should question the validity of your preferred brand's compliance claims.
